Butte, ND – The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle rollover crash that occurred on ND Highway 53 in McLean County between the evening of November 8 and the early morning hours of November 9, 2025.

According to the NHP, a 1999 Ford F-250 was traveling westbound when the driver lost control on the ice-covered roadway, causing the truck to veer into a ditch and roll onto its driver’s side. The driver, a 63-year-old man from Ruso, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials confirmed that no seat belt was in use at the time of the crash. Weather conditions at the time remain under investigation. Agencies assisting at the scene included the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, Velva Ambulance, and the Butte Fire Protection District.

Authorities continue to remind drivers to use caution on icy roads, reduce speeds, and wear seat belts at all times as winter driving hazards increase across the region.
