Barnes County, ND – A single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning killed a Sanborn man near Barnes County 22 and 102nd Ave SE, about three miles west of Sanborn. The crash occurred around 6:23 a.m., involving a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner that rolled over multiple times.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that the 4-Runner traveled westbound on County 22 when it veered onto the north shoulder. The driver overcorrected, returning to the road, but lost control, entering the south ditch. As the vehicle rolled, the 30-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, airbags deployed, but the driver’s lack of seatbelt use contributed to the severity of his injuries. Officials are withholding the man’s identity until his family is notified.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash. No charges have been filed, and officials urge drivers to wear seatbelts to prevent further tragedies.
