Bismarck, ND – A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for central North Dakota and north-central South Dakota, effective from 4:40 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. CDT today. The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center warns of scattered large hail and damaging wind gusts.
According to the NWS, thunderstorms are intensifying over western North and South Dakota. These storms are expected to move eastward, posing a significant risk of large hail, up to 2 inches in diameter, and wind gusts reaching 70 mph. The affected area includes a region approximately 85 miles north and south of a line from 60 miles southwest of Bismarck, ND, to 20 miles south-southeast of Jamestown, ND.
Residents are advised to stay vigilant and prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. The NWS emphasizes that a severe thunderstorm watch indicates favorable conditions for severe storms, which can occasionally produce tornadoes.
