Fargo, ND – Residents of North Dakota and Minnesota are bracing for dangerously cold temperatures as an extreme cold watch remains in effect from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning. Wind chills could drop as low as 50 below zero in some areas, posing serious risks of frostbite and hypothermia.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the cold weather advisory has been canceled, but the extreme cold watch remains active for portions of northwest and west-central Minnesota and northeast and southeast North Dakota. Cities including Fargo, Grand Forks, Devils Lake, and Moorhead are expected to experience the harshest conditions, with wind chills potentially causing frostbite in as little as five minutes.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, including hats, face masks, and gloves, if going outdoors is necessary. Pets should be kept indoors whenever possible. The National Weather Service advises monitoring updates as the cold front approaches and temperatures drop dangerously low through early next week.
