Buffalo, N.Y. – Northern New York’s growing season is at risk Saturday morning as a Frost Advisory takes effect for Jefferson and Lewis counties. Temperatures are forecast to fall into the low and mid-30s overnight, allowing widespread frost to form across the North Country.
According to the National Weather Service office in Buffalo, the advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday. Communities including Watertown, Lowville, and surrounding rural areas could see frost thick enough to damage or kill sensitive outdoor plants.
Gardeners and farmers are urged to cover tender crops, bring potted plants indoors, and protect flowers from the overnight chill. Residents may also want to check irrigation and outdoor plumbing systems, as exposed pipes could be vulnerable in colder valleys.
No impacts to travel are expected, but early risers may notice frost on lawns, rooftops, and vehicles before sunrise.
The Frost Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday, with another round of cold weather possible again Saturday night.
