Green Bay, Wisconsin – Roads across north-central Wisconsin could turn slick within hours as a mix of snow and freezing precipitation moves in by 6 p.m. Tuesday, threatening the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 6 p.m. Tuesday through noon Wednesday for Oneida, Langlade and northern Oconto counties. Snow totals will remain light, generally up to 1 inch, but ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch could create hazardous driving conditions. Wind gusts may reach 35 mph overnight.

The light ice glaze poses the greatest risk on bridges and overpasses along U.S. Highway 51 near Rhinelander, Highway 45 through Antigo and rural routes in Townsend, Lakewood and Mountain. Gusty winds could cause patchy blowing snow and reduced visibility in open areas.

Drivers should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Wisconsin 511 for real-time road updates before traveling. Sidewalks and untreated driveways may become icy shortly after precipitation begins.

The most dangerous travel window centers on the early morning commute Wednesday. Advisories remain in effect until noon, and additional alerts could follow if ice totals increase.
