Wausau, Wisconsin – A sharp overnight chill is expected to sweep across north-central Wisconsin, triggering a frost advisory from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday for Lincoln, Langlade, and Marathon counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, temperatures will dip as low as 32°F in some areas, creating conditions ripe for frost in cities like Wausau, Antigo, Tomahawk, and Merrill. Sensitive outdoor plants may be damaged or killed if left uncovered.
Gardeners are advised to cover flowers, vegetables, and other frost-prone plants before nightfall. Low-lying rural areas are especially vulnerable, with calm winds and clear skies amplifying the risk of frost formation.
While no travel disruptions are expected, this unseasonably cold stretch marks the beginning of the seasonal transition for central Wisconsin. More advisories may follow if chilly nighttime temperatures continue.
