Green Bay, Wisconsin – Drivers across central and northeast Wisconsin will face dangerously low visibility this morning as a dense fog advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday. Visibility in many areas may drop to a quarter-mile or less, particularly in rural zones and along major highways.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, the advisory impacts a wide swath of the region, including Marathon, Portage, Outagamie, and Vilas counties. Cities affected include Appleton, Wausau, Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids. The dense fog is expected to lift mid-morning, but until then, travel will be treacherous on roads like Highway 29, I-39, and Highway 51.
Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra stopping distance. Morning commuters should plan for delays and avoid unnecessary travel until visibility improves. No major accidents have been reported yet, but local law enforcement advises caution, especially near intersections and open stretches of rural roads.
Conditions are expected to clear by mid-morning, but patchy fog could linger in low-lying areas. Another advisory could be issued if fog redevelops overnight.
