Stevens Pass, Washington – Drivers crossing Stevens Pass could encounter bursts of snow falling at nearly 1 inch per hour after 10 p.m. Sunday, quickly covering roadways ahead of the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday for western Chelan County, including Stehekin, Holden Village and Stevens Pass. Snow accumulations between 2 and 8 inches are expected, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of snowfall rates reaching 1 inch per hour during heavier bands overnight.

Snow will intensify late Sunday night, leading to compact snow and reduced visibility along U.S. Highway 2 at Stevens Pass. Higher elevations near Holden Village and remote areas around Stehekin may see rapidly changing conditions as heavier bursts move through.

The timing of the heaviest snowfall could directly affect early Monday travelers and commercial traffic moving across the Cascades. Even short periods of intense snow may create hazardous driving conditions.

Motorists should slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Washington State Department of Transportation updates at wsdot.wa.gov/travel before departure.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 10 a.m. Monday, though additional snow showers could linger in the high country.
