Fort Worth, Texas – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for all of North and Central Texas as forecasters warn of accumulating snow, sleet, and ice followed by dangerous cold temperatures this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the watch is in effect from Friday afternoon, Jan. 23, through late Saturday night, Jan. 24, 2026, covering North and Central Texas, including the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, Waco, Temple, Killeen, Sherman, Paris, Corsicana, and surrounding communities.
Forecasters say moderate to heavy accumulations of snow, sleet, or ice are likely from Friday through Saturday night. Precipitation type and amounts will vary by location, but impacts are expected to be widespread across the region.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly, with bridges and overpasses becoming especially dangerous as temperatures fall below freezing. The National Weather Service warns that significant ice accumulation could weigh down power lines and tree limbs, leading to power outages in some areas.
In addition to winter precipitation, dangerous cold temperatures are expected to develop Saturday night through Monday morning. The extreme cold could become life-threatening for those without adequate heating, damage unprotected pipes, and pose serious risks to livestock and pets.
Residents are urged to monitor forecast updates closely as details become clearer. Officials recommend preparing homes and businesses ahead of Friday, assembling emergency kits, and checking on vulnerable family members, neighbors, and friends.
Travel plans for the weekend may need to be delayed or altered as hazardous conditions develop. Those who must travel are advised to use extreme caution and carry winter emergency supplies.
Forecasters emphasize that additional advisories or warnings are likely as the storm approaches and impacts become more certain.
