Brownwood, Texas – Supercells racing across west-central and north-central Texas this evening could bring destructive hail up to 3 inches wide, 70 mph winds, and a high risk of tornadoes—including the potential for a strong twister near dusk.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Tornado Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. CDT for areas from Brownwood to Wichita Falls, spanning roughly 60 miles east and west of that line. The watch includes multiple counties under immediate threat as low-level wind shear intensifies, increasing the risk for long-track or intense tornadoes.
Residents in Abilene, Stephenville, Graham, and surrounding communities should remain weather-aware. Power outages, snapped trees, and dangerous travel conditions are likely if severe storms track over populated corridors such as US-183, US-281, and TX-36.
Those in the watch area should secure outdoor items, prepare for power disruptions, and stay near a safe shelter location. NOAA Weather Radios or mobile alerts are crucial for receiving real-time warnings.
This Tornado Watch follows earlier severe weather watches across central Texas. Additional watches and warnings may be issued tonight as storms continue to build and push northeastward.
