State College, PA – Residents in north-central Pennsylvania should prepare for prolonged winter weather as lake effect snow is expected to impact travel conditions through the weekend and into early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Monday for Warren and McKean counties, including the cities of Warren and Bradford.
Forecasters expect 4 to 8 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts possible in areas that experience persistent lake effect snow bands. Snowfall may vary significantly over short distances, with some communities seeing heavier accumulation than nearby areas.
The extended duration of snowfall raises concerns for slick roads, reduced visibility, and difficult travel, particularly during overnight periods and early morning hours. Officials warn that hazardous conditions could linger into the Monday morning commute, even after snowfall begins to taper off.
Emergency management officials encourage residents to delay non-essential travel during the warning period. Those who must drive should use extreme caution and consider carrying a winter storm kit, including blankets, extra clothing, food, water, a flashlight, and other emergency supplies in case of becoming stranded.
Road crews will continue monitoring conditions, but rapidly changing snowfall rates could make road treatment challenging at times. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for sudden changes in visibility.
Residents should continue monitoring local forecasts and alerts, as lake effect snow bands may shift, increasing impacts in localized areas.
