Mansfield, Ohio – A significant winter storm could create dangerous travel conditions across north central and northwest Ohio beginning Saturday evening, with heavy snow and bitter cold lingering into early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Saturday evening through Monday morning for counties stretching from the Lake Erie shoreline inland through north central Ohio. Snow accumulations exceeding 6 inches are possible, with the heaviest snowfall expected on Sunday as the system intensifies.

Areas included in the watch range from Sandusky and Erie counties along Lake Erie to inland communities such as Mansfield, Marion, Findlay, Tiffin, Bucyrus, Mount Vernon, and Upper Sandusky. Major routes including U.S. 30, U.S. 224, State Route 4, and portions of Interstate 71 could become snow-covered and slick, making travel very difficult at times.

In addition to snowfall, dangerously cold air will move in behind the storm. Wind chills are expected to drop below zero Saturday night into Sunday morning, then again Sunday night into Monday morning, increasing the risk for frostbite and vehicle issues.

Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel, prepare winter emergency kits, and ensure vehicles and homes are ready for extreme cold. The storm may impact the Monday morning commute, and additional advisories or warnings are possible as confidence in snowfall totals increases.
