Trenton, New Jersey – Drivers across central and northern New Jersey should prepare for deteriorating road conditions Sunday as accumulating snow spreads across the region from early morning into the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, Mercer, and western Monmouth counties. Snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches are expected, enough to cause widespread slippery travel conditions.

In Trenton, snow is expected to begin shortly after daybreak, with roads becoming slick by midmorning. Travel along I-295, Route 1, Route 29, and local streets could slow significantly as snow continues through the afternoon. In nearby communities including Morristown, Somerville, New Brunswick, Flemington, and Freehold, untreated roads, ramps, and parking lots may become snow-covered, especially during the afternoon hours.

New Jersey Department of Transportation crews are expected to monitor conditions and treat major roadways as needed. Motorists are urged to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and allow additional travel time. Those who can postpone non-essential travel during the afternoon and early evening are encouraged to do so.

The advisory is scheduled to expire Sunday night, though lingering slick spots may remain into early Monday morning. Weather officials note that additional updates or advisories could be issued if snowfall becomes heavier than expected.
