Nebraska – Mixed precipitation is expected to create slippery and potentially hazardous conditions across north-central Nebraska Friday, prompting a winter weather advisory that will remain in effect throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. CST Friday for Keya Paha, Boyd, Brown, Rock, Holt, Loup, Garfield, and Wheeler counties.
Forecasters say the region can expect light snow accumulations up to a dusting, along with ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch. While snowfall totals are minimal, even light icing can create slick roads, bridges, sidewalks, and driveways, especially during periods of freezing temperatures.
Officials warn that travel conditions may deteriorate quickly, with icy patches forming on untreated roads. The hazardous conditions may affect travel throughout the day, including the Friday evening commute.
Residents heading outdoors are urged to use caution on stairs, sidewalks, and parking areas, where icy surfaces could increase the risk of slips and falls. Drivers are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time.
Travelers can check the latest road conditions by calling Nebraska 511 before heading out.
For commuters, students, and workers across north-central Nebraska, the advisory signals a heightened risk for slick travel conditions lasting into the evening hours.
