Bismarck, ND – The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for much of northwest and north-central North Dakota, in effect from 8 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to fall as low as 25 degrees overnight.

According to the NWS in Bismarck, the warning includes areas such as Williston, Minot, Stanley, Bottineau, and Rugby. The early-season cold snap will bring sub-freezing conditions capable of damaging or killing crops, gardens, and other sensitive vegetation.

Forecasters are advising residents to cover or bring indoors any vulnerable outdoor plants and disconnect garden hoses to prevent damage from freezing water.

“Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold,” officials said in the alert, emphasizing that conditions will remain below freezing for several hours overnight before warming slightly Tuesday morning.

This freeze marks one of the coldest nights of the fall season so far, signaling a rapid shift toward winter conditions across the northern Plains.
