Duluth, MN – Heavy rain and thunderstorms could drench northern Minnesota late Monday into Tuesday, raising flash flood concerns across parts of the state. Cities like Hibbing, International Falls, and Grand Marais may see up to an inch or more of rainfall, with a 5–15% chance of flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a widespread system will bring showers and isolated severe storms to North-Central Minnesota starting Monday afternoon. The threat continues into Tuesday, especially in areas east of Highway 53, where flash flood risks climb due to saturated ground and localized downpours.

Grand Marais, Ely, and Two Harbors could see rainfall probabilities peak between 70% and 85% early Tuesday, with storms possibly strong enough to cause ponding on roads and brief travel disruptions. Isolated severe thunderstorms Monday evening may include gusty winds or hail.

Residents in flood-prone zones should clear storm drains, avoid driving through water-covered roads, and monitor local alerts. With 10–55% odds of rainfall topping one inch, even normally dry areas could be impacted.

Storm chances taper off by Wednesday morning, but additional alerts may follow if rainfall amounts climb higher than expected.
