Atlanta, Georgia – Scattered thunderstorms will sweep across north and central Georgia each afternoon and evening through Friday, raising concerns about localized flooding and dangerous travel conditions for residents from Atlanta to Macon.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, storm chances remain high—peaking at 65% today and Thursday—before decreasing sharply this weekend. Thunderstorm coverage will be greatest during the late afternoon and evening hours, with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and periods of heavy rain possible.

Cities including Atlanta, Athens, and Columbus could see repeated rounds of downpours, leading to water pooling on streets and quick rises in small creeks or streams. Slow-moving storms may increase the risk for flash flooding, especially in low-lying or urban areas. Local DOT crews are urging drivers to avoid flooded roadways and have alternate routes planned. Outdoor events and after-school activities may face delays or cancellations due to lightning and saturated fields.

Residents should charge devices, have multiple ways to receive weather alerts—including NOAA radios, TV, and emergency apps—and avoid travel during heavy rainfall.

Storm chances drop to 25% by Saturday, but warnings remain in effect through Friday. More updates will be issued as conditions change.
