Asheville, NC – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of western North Carolina from 6 a.m. Wednesday through noon Thursday, bringing a chance of light snow and a wintry mix.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, snowfall is expected to be minimal, but slick conditions could develop on roads, particularly in the mountains. The advisory covers areas including Asheville, Boone, and Hickory, where light snow is expected to begin Wednesday morning before transitioning to a wintry mix.

Temperatures will remain below normal, increasing the risk of icy spots on untreated roads. Officials urge drivers to exercise caution, particularly on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.

While snowfall amounts will be light, forecasters warn that even a small accumulation could lead to hazardous travel conditions. The winter weather is expected to taper off by late Thursday morning.

Residents should monitor local forecasts for updates and be prepared for possible delays due to slick roads. Those traveling overnight should allow extra time and use caution when driving in affected areas.
