Asheville, NC – Residents in western North Carolina are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions as a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from midnight tonight until noon Sunday. Freezing rain, with possible snow and sleet, is expected to affect areas including Asheville, Black Mountain, and higher elevations in Buncombe County.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, ice accumulations could reach up to one-tenth of an inch, particularly along eastern-facing slopes and areas above 3,500 feet. Slippery roads and isolated power outages are possible due to ice accumulation on power lines and tree limbs.
The advisory also extends to Avery, Yancey, Mitchell, and portions of Caldwell, Burke, and McDowell Counties, where a mix of freezing rain, snow, and sleet may occur. Travel may be treacherous in these regions.
Drivers are urged to slow down and exercise caution. Stay updated on forecasts and consider delaying non-essential travel.
