Bryson City, NC –
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday for Swain County, where the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg is forecasting heavy snow and strong winds in the mountains.

According to forecasters, snow totals will vary sharply by elevation—valleys could see up to 2 inches, while areas above 3,500 feet may receive 4 to 10 inches. The highest peaks above 5,000 feet in the Smoky Mountains could see more than a foot of accumulation, with wind gusts up to 45 mph expected to worsen conditions.

The combination of heavy, wet snow and strong winds could lead to power outages, falling tree branches, and near-zero visibility at times. Roads in higher elevations may become impassable, especially overnight and into Monday.

Residents are urged to limit travel, prepare for possible power interruptions, and keep emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water in their vehicles if travel is unavoidable.
