New Bern, NC – A significant winter storm is set to impact eastern North Carolina, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and ice accumulation through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday. Areas including Greenville, New Bern, Jacksonville, and the Northern Outer Banks can expect up to 3 inches of snow and sleet, along with ice accumulations of up to 0.4 inches. Winds may also gust up to 35 mph along the coast, increasing the risk of power outages and downed trees.

Road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Officials warn that travel may become nearly impossible in some areas due to ice buildup.

Residents should prepare for potential power outages and hazardous conditions by keeping emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water readily available. Motorists are advised to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and check 511 for updated road conditions.

This winter storm could significantly impact daily activities and infrastructure, so residents should stay informed and take necessary precautions.
