Asheville, NC – Residents along North Carolina’s border with Tennessee should brace for snow and high winds this weekend, creating hazardous travel conditions. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued, effective from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday, for elevations above 3,500 feet.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snowfall of up to 4 inches is expected in areas like Madison, Mitchell, and Avery counties, with gusts reaching 45 mph. The advisory includes popular destinations such as Banner Elk and Newland, where mountain roads could become icy and slippery.

The snowfall and winds may lead to tree damage and power outages. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, as visibility could drop significantly in the higher elevations. Residents should also secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power disruptions.

The weekend forecast shows lingering snow showers into Sunday morning, followed by a cold but calmer start to the week. Temperatures in the affected areas will hover in the mid-20s overnight and climb only to the low 30s during the day.

Stay updated with the latest forecasts and plan travel accordingly. Monitor local road conditions and check the NWS for updates as the storm progresses.
