Charlotte, North Carolina – Dangerous heat and rising humidity will grip the Charlotte region Friday, with thunderstorms likely to interrupt any afternoon outdoor plans. A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday for six counties, including Mecklenburg, Union, and Iredell.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, heat index values could reach 102°F in Charlotte and neighboring areas. Thunderstorms are expected after 4 p.m., with brief heavy downpours and wind gusts possible. Drivers on I-77 and I-85 should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Friday’s high is forecast near 93°F, with storms beginning late afternoon. The heat, paired with oppressive humidity, could lead to heat exhaustion or illness for anyone outdoors too long. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors.
