Morehead City, North Carolina – Damaging winds and hail could hit parts of eastern North Carolina, including Morehead City, late Saturday as a spring thunderstorm system develops across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon through late Saturday night, bringing wind gusts up to 30 mph and a small hail threat to Carteret, Craven, and Onslow counties. While Friday and most of Saturday will remain calm with sunshine and highs near 88°F, conditions are expected to shift rapidly as storms roll in.

Areas along US-70 should remain alert Saturday evening, particularly around Newport and Morehead City. Travel delays, slick roads, and brief power outages are possible during heavier downpours. Though spotter activation is not currently expected, residents should monitor updated weather statements throughout the day.

Sunday will bring a return to calmer conditions, with sunny skies and a high near 87°F. Early next week remains mostly dry, with highs in the mid-80s Monday and Tuesday and a chance of scattered showers increasing midweek.
