Wilmington, N.C. – Temperatures across southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina are climbing to near 90°F today, making it one of the warmest days of the month so far.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, highs on Sunday, May 18, will reach 89°F in Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, and 90°F in Florence and Lumberton under partly sunny skies. The warm, dry weather stretches across the I-95 corridor and coastal regions, with light winds and minimal cloud cover expected into the afternoon.
While no alerts are currently in place, residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, especially between 1 and 4 p.m. Sun exposure can be intense, with UV indexes nearing extreme levels in open areas. Beachgoers along the Grand Strand should also be aware of potential rip current risks despite the calm forecast.
This marks a noticeable warm-up from earlier in the week, signaling an early summer pattern. Another warm and mostly dry day is expected Monday, though a chance of scattered showers may return midweek.
