Lumberton, NC – A narrow but impactful freeze window will develop overnight, putting crops and sensitive vegetation at risk across southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina before the Sunday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday for Robeson, Bladen, and inland Pender counties in North Carolina, along with Dillon and Marlboro counties in South Carolina. Temperatures are expected to bottom out near 32 degrees, with localized pockets briefly dipping below freezing.

Communities including Lumberton, Elizabethtown, Burgaw, Dillon, and Bennettsville will face up to seven hours of frost and freeze conditions. Rural farmland and low-lying areas are most vulnerable, where frost could form quickly and damage early spring crops, gardens, and flowering trees.

Residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, protect outdoor plumbing, and avoid leaving irrigation systems exposed overnight. Agricultural interests should take immediate precautions to limit potential losses before midnight.

Temperatures will climb above freezing shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday, but additional cold mornings remain possible. More advisories could be issued if clear skies continue into early next week.
