Raleigh, North Carolina – Unseasonably warm air will remain in place across central North Carolina today, bringing mostly cloudy skies, patchy morning fog, and areas of drizzle before rain becomes more widespread by tonight. While no severe weather is expected, damp conditions could impact travel during the morning commute and again later this evening as rain spreads east.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, patchy fog and light drizzle are most likely this morning, especially across the Triad. Visibility may briefly drop in low-lying areas and near rivers. Rain developing across northwest North Carolina this afternoon will gradually move east, reaching the Triangle and northeast Piedmont tonight.

High temperatures today are expected to climb well above normal for January, reaching the upper 60s to mid-70s across much of the region, including Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and Rocky Mount. Rainfall amounts through early Saturday should remain generally light, with most locations picking up only a few tenths of an inch.

Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads and allow extra stopping distance, particularly during periods of drizzle that can make pavement slick. Rain chances continue into tonight, with cloudy conditions lingering into Saturday. Additional rounds of rain are possible beyond tonight, and residents should continue to monitor updates as the pattern remains unsettled.
