Raleigh, NC – North Carolina cities including Greensboro, Raleigh, and Fayetteville wrapped up September 2025 with cooler-than-average temperatures and notably drier conditions, according to the US National Weather Service Raleigh.

The monthly climate summary shows all three cities posted average temperatures slightly below normal. Raleigh reported an average temperature of 72.1 degrees, about 0.5 degrees cooler than normal, while Fayetteville averaged 73.7 degrees, also down 0.5 degrees. Greensboro was the coolest of the three, averaging 70.4 degrees, nearly 0.6 degrees below its long-term norm.

According to the weather service, rainfall totals were also significantly lower. Raleigh measured just 1.92 inches of precipitation, more than three inches below normal. Fayetteville reported 2.48 inches, a shortfall of 2.39 inches, while Greensboro logged 3.93 inches, about two-thirds of an inch under average.

Despite cooler averages, the region still saw late-season warmth. Raleigh reached 95 degrees on September 24, while Fayetteville topped out at 94 degrees on three different days. Overnight lows were consistently cooler, with Greensboro and Fayetteville both dropping into the 50s early in the month.

The drier trend follows an already cooler-than-normal August across the state. Officials say rainfall deficits could add to ongoing dryness concerns heading into October.
