Raleigh, NC – A light freezing rain event could impact central North Carolina late Monday night into early Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns drivers to prepare for potentially slippery roads along the US-1 corridor during the morning commute.

According to the NWS, light precipitation will begin late tonight, potentially creating patches of ice accumulation. Freezing rain is most likely from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday, particularly in central and southern areas where temperatures may dip below freezing. While ice accumulation is expected to remain under 0.05 inches, bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads could become slick.

By mid-morning Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to rise above freezing, reducing the risk of hazardous travel. However, residents are advised to monitor updates and use caution if traveling during peak morning hours.

Looking ahead, Christmas Day will bring mostly sunny skies with highs around 52°F. Warmer conditions are expected to continue into the weekend, with highs reaching the mid-50s by Friday. Despite the improvement, light rain may return Saturday evening.

Residents should remain vigilant about changing road conditions tonight and early Tuesday. Keep an eye on weather forecasts and consider delaying non-essential travel during freezing periods.
