New Bern, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina should brace for a hot, stormy Thursday, with more unsettled weather expected into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening, with a few storms potentially becoming strong. Forecasters warn that storms may bring heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.
Temperatures will climb near 90 degrees today with lows in the low 70s. A cold front approaching from the west is expected to stall over the region beginning Friday, fueling multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms through early next week.
Friday’s highs will reach the upper 80s with thunderstorms likely, followed by cooler weekend conditions with highs in the low 80s Saturday and upper 70s Sunday. Rain chances will persist into Monday.
The NWS cautions residents to monitor forecasts and prepare for rapidly changing weather, especially during peak afternoon and evening hours. Stronger storms may produce localized flooding and dangerous lightning.
