Raleigh, N.C. – Rain and patchy fog will hang over Raleigh early today, but conditions shift quickly, with sunshine returning Monday, September 8. The bigger picture shows a developing dry stretch for central North Carolina, with rainfall chances dropping well below average through next week.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms may linger into mid-afternoon Sunday before skies begin to clear overnight. High pressure builds across the region on Monday, bringing full sun and highs near 79. That high is expected to dominate much of the week, reinforcing a pattern of limited rain. NOAA’s 6–10 day precipitation outlook highlights below-normal rainfall across the Carolinas, raising concerns about drying soil and potential fire danger if the pattern persists.

Drivers across Wake County, including those using I-40 and U.S. 1, will benefit from clear roads during the workweek. Meanwhile, farmers and gardeners should monitor soil conditions closely, as crops and lawns could show stress with several consecutive dry days. Outdoor burn restrictions may be considered later in the week if humidity stays low.

While cooler mornings and comfortable afternoons will make for pleasant outdoor plans, officials urge residents to prepare for the impacts of a longer dry spell. Small creeks and streams could see reduced flow, and residents are encouraged to conserve water where possible.

The National Weather Service notes that meaningful rainfall is unlikely before late next week, keeping central North Carolina under a dry influence until mid-September.
