Raleigh, NC – Drivers across Raleigh could encounter slick roads and bursts of heavy rain before the Monday morning commute as a round of showers and thunderstorms spreads across central North Carolina overnight and into the start of the workweek.
Saturday remains calm and sunny across the Triangle, with temperatures climbing to around 71°F under light winds. The quiet conditions will allow outdoor plans across Wake County and surrounding areas to proceed without disruption.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, the pattern begins shifting Sunday afternoon as scattered showers develop after 2 p.m., followed by steadier rain Sunday night. Showers and possible thunderstorms continue Monday with south winds gusting up to 36 mph and temperatures surging to around 74°F.
Rainfall totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches could create ponding on major corridors including I-40, I-440, and U.S. 1, particularly during heavier downpours Monday morning. Gusty winds may also reduce visibility for drivers and impact elevated roadways around the Triangle.
Storm chances linger Monday evening before colder air pushes into the region overnight. Temperatures could drop to near 32°F by early Tuesday, marking a sharp cooldown after the early-week warmth.
Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs in the mid-40s, followed by clear and cool nights. Additional advisories could develop if stronger thunderstorms organize across central North Carolina Monday.
