Raleigh, NC – North Carolina will hold onto its early winter chill through next week, though skies should remain mostly dry. According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center’s 8–14 Day Outlook, issued December 1, the state will stay in a below-normal temperature pattern from December 9 through December 15, as Arctic air lingers over the Eastern U.S..

Forecasters say highs will range from the low 40s in the Piedmont to near 50 along the coast, while lows dip into the 20s and 30s. Despite the cold, NOAA indicates below-normal precipitation, meaning most areas — including Raleigh, Charlotte, and Greensboro — will likely see dry weather with no major snow chances.

The pattern will favor sunny but brisk days and cold, frosty mornings, especially across inland regions. The mountains of western North Carolina may see passing clouds or a stray flurry, but measurable snow isn’t expected.

Meanwhile, the West Coast and Southwest will experience above-average warmth and dry conditions — the mirror image of the chill gripping the Southeast.

Meteorologists expect the cold to persist into mid-December before a slow moderation in temperatures closer to the holidays. Until then, residents can expect plenty of sweater weather and clear, crisp skies across the Tar Heel State.
