Raleigh, NC — Heavy fog blanketing the Raleigh-Durham area is expected to linger until 9 a.m. on Tuesday, causing potential visibility issues for Election Day commuters. The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory, urging motorists to drive cautiously and allow extra travel time, especially along major highways and routes around Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

According to the National Weather Service, visibility in some areas is limited to a quarter mile or less, creating challenging conditions for drivers. Fog should begin clearing mid-morning, but those traveling on routes such as I-40 and I-540 are advised to remain vigilant for any sudden changes in visibility. With calm conditions prevailing, temperatures will rise significantly once the fog lifts, reaching an unseasonably warm high of around 80 degrees.

Throughout the afternoon, Raleigh residents can expect mostly sunny skies, though slightly hazy conditions may linger. This unusual warmth, combined with a light southeast breeze of 5 to 9 mph, will make for a pleasant, if warmer-than-average, Election Day in central North Carolina.

Looking ahead, Wednesday’s forecast suggests a high near 81 degrees with a slight chance of afternoon showers, providing a mild transition into midweek. Rain chances will increase slightly by Thursday, with a forecasted high near 78 and scattered showers likely. By Friday, sunny conditions are expected to return, though temperatures may cool slightly to around 75 degrees.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed on any changes to local weather conditions through the week as fog and intermittent showers could affect road safety. Follow the National Weather Service and local news updates for real-time alerts.
