GREENVILLE, N.C. – A crisp, clear night will allow temperatures to plunge into the low to mid-30s across eastern North Carolina, leading the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City to issue a Frost Advisory from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST Friday. Areas of frost are expected to develop before sunrise, posing a threat to sensitive outdoor plants and late-season crops.
According to the Weather Service, the advisory includes Beaufort, Duplin, Greene, Inland Onslow, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Northern Craven, Pitt, and Washington counties, with the coldest readings likely in sheltered rural spots. Skies will remain clear overnight, and light winds will allow for optimal frost formation on exposed surfaces.
Residents in communities such as Greenville, Kinston, Jacksonville, and Washington should take immediate precautions to protect tender vegetation, cover outdoor plants, and bring potted flowers inside. Drivers may encounter light frost on windshields and bridges during the early commute, especially along U.S. 17, U.S. 264, and NC 11.
Temperatures will rebound quickly after sunrise Friday, with sunshine and highs in the upper 50s. A gradual warming trend will continue through the weekend before a stronger cold front arrives early next week, signaling a return to more typical November chill.
