Raleigh, NC – As the fall season deepens, residents in Raleigh-Durham should prepare for an early frost arriving later this week. Columbus Day promises sunny skies and mild temperatures, but a noticeable dip is expected as the week progresses, with patchy frost anticipated Thursday and Friday mornings. Local residents are encouraged to take precautions with outdoor plants and sensitive vegetation.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will climb to 74°F on Monday, making for a pleasant holiday. However, a cold front will sweep through starting Tuesday, bringing increased cloud cover and a high of 66°F. By Wednesday, daytime highs will drop further to 59°F, setting the stage for potentially frosty conditions in the Piedmont and Northern Coastal Plain areas on Thursday and Friday.

Nighttime lows will descend into the 30s by midweek, with the coldest temperatures expected Thursday night at 39°F. The NWS has indicated that frost could impact areas along major routes, including Interstate 40 and the Raleigh Beltline, particularly during the early morning hours. Homeowners should consider covering plants or bringing them indoors to prevent frost damage.

Sunny weather is expected to return by Friday, with temperatures gradually warming into the weekend. Highs will reach around 66°F on Friday, followed by even warmer days on Saturday and Sunday, peaking at 74°F.
