Newport, N.C. – Low-lying communities along the North Carolina coast could see shallow flooding into Saturday as a coastal flood advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m., with water levels expected to rise 1 to 2 feet above normal in vulnerable areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Newport, the advisory covers Bogue Banks beaches, Bogue Sound, the Newport and White Oak Rivers, and adjacent tidal creeks. Portions of Topsail Beach, the lower New River, and waterfront areas near Carteret and Onslow counties are most at risk.

High tide cycles are forecast to bring minor flooding, with peak impacts expected Friday evening and midday Saturday. Roads, parking lots, and yards close to the water could experience shallow inundation, and homes immediately along shorelines may see water encroachment.

Officials urge residents not to drive through standing water and to allow extra travel time, as some roadways may close during high tide. Sandbags and flood barriers should be used where possible to protect property.

The flood risk diminishes by Saturday night, though unsettled weather could return early next week with a chance of showers Monday and Tuesday. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
