Wilmington, N.C. – Minor flooding along the Cape Fear River could disrupt parts of Wilmington this afternoon as high tides and scattered showers move in. Drivers should use caution on U.S. 17 and nearby low-lying roads, where standing water may develop during peak tide.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, water levels are expected to rise late Monday afternoon, creating a risk for minor coastal flooding. Winds from the north will increase to 15 mph with gusts near 24 mph, making travel more difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
Residents near the Cape Fear River should secure property, avoid walking through flooded areas, and prepare for possible delays along coastal roads. Showers will linger into tonight with rainfall between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, though isolated spots may see more.
Tuesday brings a lower rain chance, but gusts up to 20 mph remain possible. By midweek, conditions improve with partly sunny skies and highs near 80 degrees. Warm afternoons will continue through Thursday, with nighttime lows staying in the mid-60s.
While flooding concerns ease after Monday, unsettled weather could return by the weekend, keeping showers in play. NWS officials advise checking updates as conditions develop.
