Raleigh, NC – A soggy and cooler week is in store for much of North Carolina as two separate weather systems move across the state, according to the National Weather Service in Raleigh. The first round of rain is expected late Monday into Tuesday, followed by a stronger midweek system arriving Wednesday and lasting into Thursday.

According to the NWS, rainfall amounts early in the week should remain light, generally less than a quarter inch near the Virginia border and up to one inch closer to the South Carolina line. The second system could deliver heavier rain totals between 0.5 and 1.5 inches across central North Carolina.

Overall, rainfall totals through Thursday are forecast to range from 1.5 to 2.5 inches in the western Piedmont to around 1 inch across the Coastal Plain. Cooler air will accompany the wet pattern, keeping daytime highs below normal for late October.

Motorists should plan for slower commutes and potential ponding on roads during periods of heavier rain. Residents are also encouraged to monitor updated forecasts throughout the week as new rainfall projections develop.
