Greenville, NC – Residents across eastern North Carolina can expect another unseasonably warm September day on Tuesday, with temperatures climbing well above average for late September.
According to the National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City, inland highs are forecast to reach the mid to upper 80s, while coastal communities and the Outer Banks will see upper 70s to near 80 degrees. The weather agency noted that any lingering morning fog will burn off quickly, leaving mostly clear skies across the region.
Forecasters say light winds will dominate the day, though an isolated shower or storm may pop up along the afternoon seabreeze, especially near coastal areas. No widespread rain is expected.
The warm pattern continues a stretch of above-normal temperatures for North Carolina in September, with conditions more typical of midsummer. For many inland cities, including Greenville, Kinston, and New Bern, highs could top 88–89 degrees before easing back into the 60s overnight.
Travelers heading to the Outer Banks or Crystal Coast should also plan for plenty of sun and warm beach conditions, though brief showers remain possible in the afternoon.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to stay hydrated and mindful of extended time outdoors, as heat can still be a concern even in early fall.
