North Carolina – Crisp air hangs over Raleigh this morning, but bright February sunshine is already warming rooftops and parking lots. Temperatures started near 32 degrees, and some neighborhoods briefly touched the freezing mark. As the sun climbs, highs push toward 52 degrees, quickly easing the early chill.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, skies stay sunny today with light northwest winds around 6 mph. Clear conditions return tonight, and temperatures drop to around 29 degrees. That dip below freezing could create patchy slick spots before sunrise, especially on bridges and rural roads where moisture lingers. Use caution on I-40 and I-440 during the early commute.

Saturday turns milder and feels almost springlike. Highs climb to 62 degrees under full sun. Clouds increase Saturday night as a developing low-pressure system tracks out of the southern Plains. By Sunday afternoon, rain becomes likely with highs near 55 degrees. Rain chances jump to 80 percent Sunday and 100 percent Sunday night. Between a half inch and one inch of rainfall is possible by early Monday.

Expect wet pavement and reduced visibility Sunday evening. Plan extra time if traveling. Ponding could develop on busy stretches of Capital Boulevard and U.S. 1.

Washington’s Birthday brings mostly cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of lingering showers and highs near 55. Drier air moves in Monday night. Tuesday rebounds to a bright 62 degrees.

Looking ahead, temperatures trend above normal through midweek. Highs rise into the upper 60s by Wednesday and near 72 by Thursday, signaling early spring vibes across central North Carolina.
