Wilmington, N.C. – Thunderstorms could drench parts of the eastern Carolinas today as muggy, summerlike heat grips the region with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, scattered showers and storms are likely throughout Saturday, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs are forecast between 84 and 88 degrees, with dew points soaring into the 70s, creating very humid conditions.
From Wilmington to Jacksonville and up through New Bern, residents may see brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning between 2 and 8 p.m. Boaters and beachgoers are urged to monitor skies closely, as storms could move in quickly with little warning. Inland counties such as Duplin and Bladen may also experience downpours that could impact outdoor events or travel.
Drivers should be cautious on wet roads and avoid low-lying areas during heavy rain. With elevated moisture levels, nighttime doesn’t bring much relief—overnight lows will remain warm and sticky between 72 and 76 degrees, with scattered storms possible after sunset.
Storm chances continue into Sunday, and additional advisories may be issued.
