Wilmington, NC – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact parts of North and South Carolina this afternoon, with heavy downpours and lightning likely along the I-95 corridor and coastal areas by 2 p.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, storms will first develop along the sea breeze early this afternoon, affecting cities like Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, and North Myrtle Beach. A second, stronger round of thunderstorms is forecast to form near I-95—impacting areas from Lumberton to Florence—later in the day and gradually pushing eastward through the evening.
Rain chances are as high as 82% in Bennettsville, 80% in Whiteville, and 74% in Elizabethtown. Wilmington could reach a high of 91°F today with storm activity peaking in the late afternoon. Florence and Lumberton are also expected to see highs near 90°F, with rain rates climbing into the 70% range.
Residents should stay weather-aware, especially in areas with poor drainage or where roads flood easily. Avoid driving through high water and secure outdoor items before storms arrive.
