North Carolina – A warm breeze is already pushing inland from the Cape Fear River, and palm fronds are swaying across downtown Wilmington. Temperatures are climbing fast toward the low 70s, and gusty southwest winds are picking up along US-17 and College Road. It feels more like April than February this morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, highs reach 72 degrees today under partly sunny skies. Southwest winds increase to 11 to 16 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. Clouds thicken tonight with lows near 54.

A slight chance of rain develops Thursday before 1 p.m., then skies brighten briefly with highs again near 72. Rain chances increase Friday, with a 50 percent chance of showers and highs surging to 76 degrees. Winds may gust above 20 mph at times. Expect wet pavement during the afternoon commute.

Showers become more widespread Saturday, with a 60 percent chance of rain and highs cooling to 67. Another round of showers likely continues Saturday night and into Sunday. Highs Sunday settle near 62 with a 50 percent rain chance. Allow extra time on bridges and elevated roadways where slick spots form quickly.

Early next week turns cooler and drier. Sunshine returns Monday with highs near 50. The 6–10 day outlook signals a rebound toward above-normal temperatures late next week, bringing another round of early spring warmth to coastal North Carolina.
