Morehead City, NC – Holiday weekend plans in eastern North Carolina begin under sunny skies and mild conditions Saturday, but the dry stretch won’t last long. Rain is expected to return late Sunday, with a cooler, unsettled pattern stretching into the start of the workweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Morehead City, Saturday highs will range from the upper 70s to low 80s across the region—slightly below average for late May. Jacksonville and Kinston will top out at 81°F, while Greenville, Plymouth, and Kill Devil Hills hover around 78°F under mostly sunny skies.
By Sunday, temperatures climb to around 80°F, but cloud cover will increase throughout the day with showers likely developing by the evening, especially along the coast and into the Inner Banks. Rain chances will peak Monday morning, when highs will struggle to reach the low 70s. Travel could be impacted by slick roads during the Monday morning commute.
Residents are advised to keep umbrellas and rain jackets handy and limit outdoor Memorial Day plans during peak rain hours. Cooler temperatures and continued rain chances are expected to linger through midweek.
Another update is expected late Sunday as the pattern shifts.
