Raleigh, NC — A Level 3 Enhanced Risk for severe weather will impact Central North Carolina on Monday, March 31, with damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes expected across the region.

According to the National Weather Service Raleigh, the highest threat window spans Monday afternoon into the early overnight hours. The cold front and line of thunderstorms are forecast to reach the Triad between 2–6 p.m., the Triangle between 4–8 p.m., and the I-95 corridor between 6–9 p.m.

Wind gusts strong enough to down trees and power lines are the primary concern, especially across Raleigh, Greensboro, and Fayetteville. Tornado potential remains elevated across all of Central North Carolina. The threat for large hail, while still present, has slightly decreased since earlier forecasts.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, remain weather-aware, and have multiple methods to receive warnings, including NOAA weather radios and smartphone alerts. Travel could become hazardous during peak commute hours, especially along I-40 and I-95.

Historically, North Carolina sees fewer tornadoes in March, but fast-moving spring systems like this one can bring dangerous conditions. The public is encouraged to monitor local updates as conditions evolve through Monday evening.
