Newport, N.C. – Thunderstorms and heat could collide Monday afternoon in Carteret County, creating dangerous conditions near U.S. Highway 70 and across Newport. With highs near 93°F and heat index values soaring past 105°F, the National Weather Service is urging caution for outdoor activity.
According to the NWS office in Morehead City, storms are expected to begin after 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, with winds from the southwest gusting up to 18 mph.
