Raleigh, NC – Scattered thunderstorms are expected across central North Carolina Friday afternoon and evening, with the potential for isolated large hail and strong wind gusts. The National Weather Service has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service Raleigh office, the impacted area includes major cities such as Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro, Fayetteville, and surrounding counties. The threat is forecast to remain in place until at least 7 p.m. Friday, April 11. Storms could develop as early as midday and continue through the evening commute, prompting localized safety concerns.

Isolated large hail is the primary hazard, with smaller hail possible across a wider area. While widespread damage is not expected, residents are urged to remain alert, particularly during outdoor activities or travel.

Motorists should reduce speed on wet roads and avoid driving through hail. Homeowners may want to secure outdoor furniture and park vehicles in covered areas if possible.

This type of early-spring storm activity is not uncommon for the region, though large hail is relatively rare. Updates will be issued throughout the day at weather.gov/rah.
