RALEIGH, N.C. – Residents in central North Carolina should prepare for a significant shift in weather, with heavy rain expected to sweep across the Triangle early Thursday. Rainfall could impact morning and afternoon commutes along major roadways, including I-40 and other key routes throughout the Raleigh area, prompting commuters to plan for possible delays.
According to the National Weather Service, today’s high will reach the mid-to-upper 50s with mostly sunny skies, offering one last day of dry conditions. However, clouds will build throughout Wednesday night, bringing overnight lows into the upper 30s to low 40s. Rainfall is anticipated to begin around daybreak Thursday, intensifying by mid-morning in the Triangle and continuing into the afternoon, with total rainfall amounts between half an inch to an inch possible.
Thursday night will stay wet, with temperatures dipping to the mid-40s. Rain chances will lessen by Friday morning, leaving mostly clear skies and a high near 62 degrees. Residents should remain cautious of potentially slippery roads, especially during early and late commuting hours.
Looking ahead, Saturday promises sunshine and a high near 67 degrees, with temperatures climbing close to 70 by Sunday. After Friday’s rain, the extended forecast suggests a warming trend for the weekend, providing a pleasant break from the week’s chilly, wet conditions.
Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and stay informed about potential delays due to weather-related issues on the road. Check local traffic updates and prepare for sudden visibility reductions during Thursday’s showers.
